Build the engine behind a new category of AI

Wars. Financial crises. Supply-chain disruption. Strategic surprise.

These events rarely begin with obvious signals.

They emerge from thousands of interconnected decisions made by governments, markets, and individuals operating under uncertainty.

At Anadyr Horizon, we're building the world's first Simulation Intelligence platform—a new category of technology that models how real decision-makers behave under pressure and reveals hidden pathways of escalation before they become reality.

Governments use our platform to anticipate geopolitical crises. Financial institutions use it to understand how political decisions propagate through markets before conventional analysis catches up.

We're looking for an exceptional early-career backend engineer to help build the software infrastructure that makes all of this possible. If you are excited by difficult problems, high ownership, and building for the long term, we want to hear from you.

About Anadyr Horizon

We're venture-backed and founded by a team spanning Harvard, computational physics, and decades of work in negotiation science and geopolitical simulation.

Our proprietary Agentic Systems Intelligence (ASI) platform combines large-scale agent-based simulation, systems modeling, behavioral science, and modern AI to model how complex strategic systems evolve under pressure.

This isn't another AI wrapper. We're building an entirely new category of technology: simulation-powered decision infrastructure for the age of strategic surprise.

What You'll Build

As part of our backend engineering team, you'll help build and maintain the core infrastructure behind our simulation platform. We use AI coding tools extensively. We also expect every engineer to understand exactly what their code is doing.

Your work will include:

  • Designing and maintaining the REST APIs powering our simulation platform and user interface.
  • Building backend services using Python, FastAPI, and related technologies.
  • Maintaining and extending our simulation engine.
  • Writing shared libraries used across multiple components of the platform.
  • Developing internal tools that improve engineering and research workflows.
  • Starting, monitoring, debugging, and optimizing simulation runs.
  • Maintaining the datasets and services our simulations depend on.
  • Improving reliability, observability, and performance of our AWS-hosted infrastructure.
  • Participating in code reviews and helping raise the engineering standards across the company.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience .
  • Strong Python fundamentals from professional experience.
  • Experience building backend applications using FastAPI or Flask.
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
  • Experience with Git in collaborative development environments.
  • Knowledge of Linux system administration via CLI.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, debugging, and software design principles.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Unrestricted U.S. work authorization.

Nice to Have

  • PostgreSQL performance optimization.
  • Docker and containerized development.
  • CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AWS services.
  • Scientific computing.
  • Data engineering.
  • Simulation platforms.
  • Machine learning infrastructure.

About You

  • High agency: You don't wait for someone to define every task. You identify problems, propose solutions, and drive work forward.
  • You deliver: You enjoy thoughtful technical discussions. But you also understand that software only creates value once it's running in production.
  • Curious: You want to understand how systems work—not just how to make them appear to work.
  • Resourceful: You enjoy ambiguity. When documentation doesn't exist, you create it. When a problem hasn't been solved before, you experiment.
  • Detail-oriented: You enjoy debugging difficult problems. You're the kind of engineer who notices subtle edge cases before users do.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy helping teammates improve through thoughtful code reviews, knowledge sharing, and honest technical discussions.

Why Join Anadyr?

  • Build something genuinely new: Simulation Intelligence is an emerging field. You'll help define how it's built.
  • Work directly with founders: You'll collaborate closely with the people who designed the technology, not through layers of management.
  • Own meaningful work early: Small teams mean real responsibility and visible impact from your first months.
  • Learn quickly: You'll work across backend engineering, distributed systems, simulation infrastructure, cloud architecture, AI tooling, and large-scale computational workflows.
  • Share in the upside: Every full-time employee receives equity because we're building for the long term.

This Is a Foundational Builder Role

We're hiring builders.

The engineers who join Anadyr today will help define the company for years to come. Every system you build, every engineering standard you establish, and every architectural decision you make will shape how we grow.

We're looking for people who want to build something enduring—not simply collect another line on their résumé. This is not a stepping stone. It's an opportunity to help create an entirely new category of technology and grow alongside the company as it scales.

That requires an all-in mindset: taking ownership beyond your job description, solving whatever problems need solving, and caring as much about the success of the team and the company as your own work.

Startups aren't for everyone. There are fewer layers, less structure, and nowhere to hide. In return, you'll have unusual ownership, direct access to leadership, and the opportunity to grow into technical leadership as Anadyr grows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary: $70,000–86,000
  • Equity participation
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Remote-first work environment
  • Flexible paid time off

Our Interview Process

  1. Initial conversation
  2. 20 min technical skills assessment
  3. 1-hr Collaborative technical interviews
  4. Final conversation with company leadership
