The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll and Accounts Payable Specialist to support our India operations. This role will be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring statutory compliance, handling vendor payments, and supporting month-end close activities. The ideal candidate has experience with Indian payroll regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll (India)
Manage monthly payroll processing in coordination with local and US-based payroll partners or platforms
Review employee compensation, bonuses, tax declarations, and statutory deductions (EPF, ESI, PT, LWF)
Ensure timely remittance of TDS and other statutory contributions
Generate and review Form 16s and support annual tax filings
Reconcile payroll with general ledger and bank statements
Handle payroll-related employee queries and coordinate with HR for updates (new hires, exits, leaves, reimbursements)
Accounts Payable
Review and process vendor invoices in compliance with internal controls and GST regulations
Ensure timely vendor payments and resolve payment-related queries
Maintain vendor master data and liaise with procurement/operations teams as needed
Coordinate with tax advisors to ensure TDS compliance and filing of returns (Form 26Q, etc.)
Assist with preparation of accruals and aging reports for month-end close
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with Indian statutory tax, labor, and financial reporting requirements
Maintain accurate documentation for audits (internal, statutory, and tax)
Support implementation of SOPs and automation initiatives
You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, or a related field; MBA or CA Inter preferred
7 years of hands-on experience in payroll and AP functions in India
Deep Knowledge with Indian payroll platforms (e.g., RazorpayX, Remote, GreytHR, Keka, etc.)
In-depth knowledge of TDS, GST, EPF, ESI, and Form 16/Form 26Q filings
Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suite; experience with ERP or accounting systems a plus
Strong attention to detail, accountability, and confidentiality
Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and implement sustainable improvements that drive operational excellence.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and global teams across time zones
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Attributes
Experience in a startup or fast-paced international environment
Experience leveraging tools, technology, or scripting to automate repetitive tasks and enhance team productivity.
